The care calendar: what to do each season

Daily care is described here. Beyond it, there are four moments a year worth an hour of attention.

Spring — repairing after winter

Road salt is the most aggressive thing for leather. It leaves white stains that, left alone, dry the fibre until it cracks.

1. Wipe with equal parts lukewarm water and white vinegar.
2. Let dry completely, with shoe trees in.
3. Feed with cream, in two thin coats.
4. Check the heels: salt attacks them first.

Summer — airing and protection

Winter shoes are stored clean, with trees, in cotton bags. Never in plastic: it traps moisture and causes mould.

For those worn now: if you go sockless, read the rules. Suede is waterproofed before the holiday.

Autumn — preparing for the hard season

The most important moment of the year.

1. Waterproof everything you will wear in rain, 24 hours before first wear.
2. Check the sole. If it is worn below half its thickness, replace it now, not in February.
3. Check the heels and their top pieces.
4. Feed the leather: it enters the season when it dries out most.

Winter — emergency care

Weekly, not monthly: wipe salt off as soon as it appears. Slow drying at room temperature, never near a radiator. Rotation becomes mandatory — wet leather needs 48 hours, not 24.

Once a year, at the atelier

Bring your important pairs for a check: sole, heels, stitching, lining, patina. For pairs we made, it is part of the service.
